The research on CO2 involves both theoretical work, modelling and simulation and experiments in the laboratory. Some of the laboratory equipment used is shown below.

Equilibrium cell; used to measure CO2 absorption equilibria in MEA solutions

Gas chromatograph (Thermo Scientific Trace GC Ultra); used to measure CO2 in the exhaust gas from the equilibrium cell

Stirred cell experimental setup; used to measure solubility and mass transfer kinetics of gas (CO2) into liquids (i.e. amine solutions)

Rheometer (Anton Paar MCR-101); used to measure the viscosity of MEA solutions and other liquids

Density meters (Anton Paar DMA 4500 and Anton Paar DMA HP); used to measure the density of MEA solutions and other liquids, at moderate to high pressures

Goniometer (Ramé-Hart Instrument); used to measure surface tension of MEA solutions and other liquids

Gas solubility cell; used to determine the physical solubility of CO2 in MEA solutions

Laminar jet absorber; used to measure diffusivity and mass transfer kinetics of gas (CO2) into liquids (i.e. amine solutions)

Autoclave (Büchi Ecoclave); used to investigate amine degradation products

GC/MS (Agilent Technologies); the combined gas chromatograph / mass spectrometer (GC/MS) system is used to identify chemical species, such as those produced in an amine degradation process
